Making Drive Belts Last Longer

Tension

If your belt feels too slack or is visibly loose it’s probably time to replace it. They are available in our shop. Belts slacken with use and are more likely to snap when stretched and old.

Hard acceleration and braking

This puts the most tension on the drive belt, kick starting and avoiding heavy braking will reduce the chances of snapping a belt.

Rocks and rubbish

Quite often rocks, bits of glass and debris can stick to the belt or pulley and slowly cut or mark the belt. Remove the belt from time to time and check this over, give it a good wash and remove and debris by hand or with a small brush. Check over the pulley for any embedded debris too.
